The objectives of the Association are:

  • Topromote interest in urban local government, to discuss matters of common concern and to make representations on such matters,
  • To protect by all constitutional means the rights and interests of all members of the Association,
  • To establish and maintain a library and bureau of information relating to local government administration and to facilitate investigation and research into all aspects of such administration,
  • To collect and disseminate information on all matters of interest to the Association,
  • To sponsor and assist the study of local government in any matter considered desirable including visits to other countries and attendance at conferences and workshops to gain information and experience of benefit to the association and its members,
  • To promote decentralisation, local autonomy and sustainable local governance,
  • To promote the participation of the community in civic affairs,
  • To invest, place on deposit or otherwise deal with any moneys, which are not required to meet current charges,T
  • o purchase, lease, acquire, hire or otherwise and to sell lease or otherwise dispose of  for cash or on credit any movable or immovable property which may be deemed necessary or convenient for the objects of the Association,
  • To borrow and raise money in such a manner as the Association may deem fit,
  • To make such rules and regulations for the routine administration of the Association as may from time to time be considered necessary or desirable,
  • To establish and maintain joint facilities and services on any matter of common interest and to monitor local authorities for the better and more economic carrying out of such services for the mutual benefit of its members,
  • To regulate relations between members and their employees or any section of their employees,
  • To protect or further the interests of members as employers in relation to their employees or any section of their employees,
  • To encourage the settlement, by conciliatory methods, of disputes between members and their employees or any section of their employees,
  • To promote, support or oppose, as may be considered expedient, any proposed legislative or other measure affecting the interests of members,
  • To pursue these objectives without regard to any party political considerations whatsoever,To do all such other things as are incidental to or conducive to the attainment of the above objects, or    any of them and generally as the Executive Committee may from time to time deem desirable or necessary in the interests of the Association
